Utagawa Toyokuni III (三代歌川豊国, also known as Kunisada), late Edo period (19th century), from the series “Meigi Sanjūroku Kashō” (名妓三十六佳撰, Thirty-Six Selected Beauties), published by Tsutaya Kichizō (蔦屋吉蔵版). This elegant bijin-ga portrays the celebrated courtesan Hanamurasaki (花紫) seated indoors on green tatami, surrounded by richly patterned kimono textiles and seasonal motifs; the composition highlights refined gestures and the quiet atmosphere of a private room, with a letter panel adding a literary touch.
This is an original ukiyo-e woodblock print (not a modern reproduction). Condition shows age-related wear: overall toning, scattered spotting/staining, and edge wear with small nicks/creases; minor surface scuffs and soiling are visible, especially in the margins. Please refer to the photo for the full extent of condition and any defects.
